Adelaide Stages

Saturday 17 January

Your OTHT Tour starts when you arrive at Adelaide's International Airport and are transported to our Deluxe Apartment base in cosmopolitan North Adelaide. There's plenty of time for you to unpack and get your bike together before a gentle roll to Glenelg and back. Tonight is when we welcome everyone to Adelaide with a satisfying dinner experience in a local restaurant.

Sunday 18 January

Today's ride is out to Port Adelaide and down the coast to Glenelg before heading back to North Adelaide. There are plenty of places to stop for brunch along the way, or ride the entire distance and have a feed at the finish. There's no rush to get to the racing given the start time of today's festivities, which is precisely how a Sunday morning ride should be!

Most of the race activities are this afternoon and early evening at Rymill Park, a few minutes walk from our hotel. Team Presentations are this afternoon prior to the traditional opener to the Tour Down Under (the Tour Down Under Classic) scheduled to start at 7pm. This is an exciting criterium race where you’ll be able to watch the riders come round the circuit every few minutes.

Monday 19 January

It an official rest day for the Tour Down Under riders with no races on.

On our agenda is a visit to the Barossa Valley for a day of wine tasting. Sit back and enjoy fruits of the vines and local produce for lunch as this is one part of Australia you just have to visit. On our return you are free to sample the range of fantastic restaurants in and around Adelaide.

Tuesday 20 January

There must be something about the beautiful Barossa Valley as the TDU étape première heads into the same hills as our wine tasting. Wine's not on our cards as we ride out to Mawson Lakes to watch the start before heading further east into the hills and witness the riders fight it out for the first King Of the Mountain points.  We'll stop again to watch the race pass before riding back to the finish line at Mawson Lakes.

Tonight you are free to relax and take in the Adelaide nightlife or join a spirited local ride along the coast to Port Adelaide and back to Scuzzi Italian restaurant; a favourite among the locals.

Wednesday 21 January

We ride south this morning up through the beautiful Adelaide Hills to Hahndorf and then into Sterling as it navigates through town three times before a 3km sprint finish.  This is a very popular stage for cyclists with it's winding roads, picturesque farmlands and charming villages. Lunch can be had in any number of fine cafes. The return home is a quick downhill ride through the city and across to North Adelaide.

Thursday 22 January

We again head south only this time it's to the coastal region of the Fleurieu Peninsula. The ride takes us through the McLaren Vale and Currency Creek wine growing regions to The stage finish in picturesque Victor Harbor. There's great riding to be had with a varied terrain and excellent choice of restaurants. Today you can either cycle back to Adelaide for a full ride-day, or bus it for a more relaxed journey

Friday 23 January

Our destination today is northwards to Angaston. After seeing the riders off in Burnside Village we shoot across to Williamstown to watch the fast men fight out the second sprint for the day. Once that's all done and dusted we head to Angaston for what promises to be a fast finale in the slightly uphill sprint to the line.

Saturday 24 January

We ride to McLaren Vale and Willunga to catch all the action from the beach front down at Aldinga Beach to the top of Willunga Hill. This is a great day for viewing the action all around the course. The Tour Down Under just wouldn't be the same without climbing Willunga Hill. This is where the real KoM stands out as the riders race up "The Hill" for final points standing in this sought after classification.

Sunday 25 January

The final day of racing action is right on our doorstep as the Adelaide City Council Street Circuit is put to good use around the Adelaide Oval and Peace Park. No need to ride to this location as it's just a few short blocks from your apartment. We will have an easy morning ride to the coast and back for those wanting to spin out their legs.

Monday 26 January

All good things must come to an end and for the Tour Down Under Tour today is the day. With time to pack your gear it's off to Adelaide International Airport for your flight home and time to relax on Australia's national birthday.
