NSW Southern Highlands Easter Getaway

As another summer gradually settles on the horizon the time has come to head south for our annual long weekend getaway in the NSW Southern Highlands. Staying at Boronia Golfview Motor Lodge in Bowral this is your opportunity for an invigorating weekend of cycle riding and relaxation in this historic area of NSW.

 

Situated approximately 120 kilometres south west of Sydney, Bowral is nestled in the midst of the Southern Highland towns of Mittagong, Moss Vale, Berrima, Bundanoon, Robertson and Goulburn. It is a place for relaxing, indulging in some peace and quiet, heading off on brisk country walks, a leisurely browse through antique shops and art galleries, and afternoon tea in front of a crackling log fire. The highlands feature impressive lakes, waterfalls, canyons, forests, limestone caves and some of the finest country gardens in Australia.

 

For those of you inclined to using foot power the Southern Highlands are a haven for bush trail tracks. Popular trails include Mount Gibraltar, Mount Alexander, Carrington Falls, the dense Robertson rainforest, and the majestic wilderness of Kangaroo Valley to the south. For sheer spectacle, Fitzroy Falls is hard to beat. Located at the northern tip of the beautiful Morton National Park, this magnificent waterfall cascades over a rugged cliff and crashes into a mass of boulders and thick bush way below. Another natural wonder is Wombeyan Caves, one of the best examples of underground limestone formations in Australia.

 

European history of the Southern Highlands is found in the quaint villages and buildings dotted across the valleys. The streets of Bowral, Moss Vale and Bundanoon, as well as smaller villages like Berrima and Burrawang, are awash with memorabilia from historic buildings. You could spend hours wandering the streets and experiencing past and present country life.

 

This weekend getaway is designed as much for the cyclist as their family. Spend the morning on two wheels before meeting your significant others and heading out for your own personal exploration of the area. 

From our starting point of Centennial Park in Sydney’s eastern suburbs we meet cyclists at selected junctions along the route on our way down to Bowral. Have your luggage transported to and from Bowral and rely on peddle power the entire weekend. Or leave it with your family for when they meet you at our destination in Bowral for afternoon tea.

 

The Southern Highland Cycling Club will host OTH Tours ride participants Easter Sunday for a spirited training ride through their local Southern Highland training ground. Choose from two routes according to your preferred option and challenge in the chase for the ever-elusive Easter Bunny!

 

Once in the Southern Highlands you will be spoilt for choice with a variety of activities to keep you busy. Hang out at Golfview Lodge utilising their facilities, explore the local villages, national parks, spectacular waterfalls, or the picturesque Kangaroo Valley. There’s something for everyone here.
