Southern Highland Easter Getaway

Tour Stages

Stage One 140kms 7:00am

The bunch leaves Randwick gates roundabout at Centennial Park (near Randwick TAFE) at 7:00am on the morning of Good Friday. (Get there early with your luggage unless prior arrangements have been made.) From there we head west towards Ashfield and join up with the Hume Highway heading south. Staying on this road will avoid traffic on the main freeway and take us towards Liverpool, at which point we veer off towards Camden on Camden Valley way. We stay on this road passing Narellan, Camden, Picton, Tahmoor, Bargo, Bomaderry, Yerrinbool, Colo Vale, stopping at the Golfview Lodge, Bowral for the final destination of the day. We’ll stop at various points along the way for you to replenish food & water supplies and give your legs a rest.

There's plenty of time for this ride and you will no doubt want to preserve and strengthen your legs for the upcoming weekend activities.

Stage Two 65kms/110kms 8:00am

After a hearty buffet breakfast it is a casual start to the riding day designed to take in the sights and sounds of the local area, giving your legs an early recovery spin in preparation for what lies ahead. We leave Bowral along Kangaloon Road heading towards Robertson and the Old Illawarra Highway. Keen riders will want to take in the challenge of riding down Macquarie Pass to Albion Park before turning around to head back up in the perfect test of hill climbing prowess. Time yourself against Australia's best from the Commonwealth Bank Classic who raced up the Pass in days of old!

Everyone will no doubt enjoy stopping for a substantial and well deserved pub lunch at the historic Burrawang Village Hotel over looking the picturesque valley. At the same time you have the opportunity to peruse the annual Burrawang Easter Markets being held on the main street and discover that hard-to-find-something that you've always been looking for. This is one great place to stop!

With lunch over and bellies full, we head back along the Old Illawarra Highway towards Moss Vale and returning to Bowral. It's then an evening to relax and take in what the local township has to offer.

Stage Three 80kms 6:00am

An early start for the cyclists today as we meet outside the Golfview Lodge for a 6:00am meeting with our hosts the Southern Highlands Cycling Club who will take us out on a quick paced training ride.

Previously, fellow cyclists have made the journey south to compete with the locals and found it challenging. You will too! Don't be fooled by these laid back country types. Be prepared for spirited riding through the hills chasing down any breaks that may get away. Once it's all over, enjoy the hospitality of our southern neighbours and join them for refreshments in one of several local establishments.

The day is yours to explore the green heart of the Southern Highlands. Walk around Barren Ground Nature Reserve; bushwalk Morton & Budderoo National Parks and visit the Three Great Waterfalls (Fitzroy Falls, Carrington Falls, Belmore Falls); visit Robertson and Kev Neel's Music Machine Museum; or stay locally and enjoy the offerings of Mittagong/Bowral/Moss Vale townships. Whatever you to do, you won't be disappointed as there's plenty of options to choose from!

Arrive back at Golfview Lodge later in the afternoon (4:00 pm-ish) for a social BBQ and Easter egg hunt where you can exchange tales of your days adventure. Relax and enjoy the natural setting of the area.

Stage Four 140kms 9:00am

With the weekend drawing to a close it's time to head back to Sydney. We assemble after breakfast in front of the Golfview Lodge before heading back on the roads we came in on. (Just reverse our journey down.) The day finishes today at the Randwick gates roundabout of Centennial Park where you take possession of your luggage and any other goodies you may have acquired over the weekend. (Alternative delivery options are available with prior arrangement.)

To those keen riders feeling strong from the weekend…..we will see you the next morning for the usual Tuesday morning hill ride to Watson Bay!
